The hand milking machine is a product for milking mares or extracting colostrum (colostrum), it is the safest and most efficient trigger operated hand vacuum pump available. With just a few pulls of the trigger, a vacuum is created in the bottle, starting the flow of colostrum or milk. The extraction cylinders have been designed to suit the shape of the mare’s udder and other animal species. They come in two sizes and have a cylindrical smooth surface to prevent damage to the soft tissue of the udder.
The milking set has been designed and tested over five years of research and development with input from leading experts, herdsmen, veterinarians and breeding farm managers from around the world.
Ideal for colostrum collection and milking mares whose foals have inherited a different blood type to the mare’s and are at risk of neonatal isoerythrolysis (NI). Essential when milking mares with mastitis and serves as an aid in mastitis prevention at weaning time. Kit comes with one pint and two 8 oz bottles (1 x 0.53l and 2 x 0.23l) for colostrum collection.
I bought it before the current lambing season, and it definitely proved its worth, as we had colostrum for all the lambs and also a reserve in the freezer. This meant that we did not have to buy commercial colostrum or organic sheep milk substitute for orphaned lambs. This method represents huge economic savings for lambs and does not interfere with our organic principles or the status of organic farmers, which we strive to achieve on our farm and in our guesthouse.
